Reporting to the TIGed Program Manager and working closely with other members of the TIGed team, the Professional Development Program Assistant will support the planning, development, implementation and administration of professional development offerings to members of the TIGed online community.

 

Position: TIGed Professional Development Program Assistant

Position Location: Toronto

Start Date: May 7, 2013

Details: 20-24 hours per week

Duration: 4 months, with the possibility of renewal

This part-time volunteer opportunity is perfect for a student or recent graduate in the field of education, international development, or other field related to work in the non-profit sector. Our ideal candidate is passionate about employing technology to support youth participation in global, action-oriented learning, and has strong writing, editing and communication skills. About TIGed

TakingITGlobal for Educators (TIGed) is a community of globally-minded educators interested in empowering their students to think and act as world citizens, a collection of resources that facilitate the inclusion of global perspectives in the classroom, and a virtual classroom that allows students to use collaborative technology in order to connect with people from around the world and learn about global issues.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Administration and Communications
    • Assist with the management of email communications
    • Create, edit and update website content
    • Moderate and animate online learning spaces
    • Co-facilitate webinars and learning modules for course participants
    • Assist with other writing and communications tasks as needed

 

  • Planning and Development
    • Support research efforts as required
    • Participate in planning meetings and contribute ideas to the development process
    • Support partnership development
    • Create and refine course materials
  • Marketing and Promotions
    • Develop a database of contacts relevant to the professional development program
    • Research and explore promotional and outreach opportunities
    • Assist with the development of promotional materials
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
    • Prepare and administer feedback surveys
    • Prepare reports

 

Required Qualifications

  • Studies in a related field (e.g. Education, Communications, Media, etc.)
  • Significant interest in education, engagement and activism
  • High level of media literacy and an understanding of the uses of web 2.0 tools
  • Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software, other software, and internet-based research
  • Detail oriented, organized, with strong time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced environment, with multiple shifting priorities
  • Leadership skills
  • Willingness to learn new things and eagerness to acquire new skills


Asset Qualifications

  • Teaching certification
  • Experience teaching adult learners
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Significant interest in youth-related issues and experience working with young people from a wide variety of cultures
  • Proficiency in languages other than English
  • Experience working and/or volunteering in the non-profit sector
  • International work or volunteer experience
