About the Position: This permanent full-time live-in position, based in Airdrie, collaborates with a team of professionals and community partners for our Specialized Community Support program. The Supported Independent Living (SIL) Counselor provides treatment for an individual in a therapeutic home with the goal of facilitating success in daily living. The SIL Counselor will assist the individual with learning a variety of daily living skills, including but not limited to, banking, budgeting, meal planning, cooking and grocery shopping. This position is also responsible for supporting the individual with ongoing medical needs. This program has potential to be established in the SIL Counselor’s existing residence or in the residence the young adult currently resides in. In the SIL Counselor’s residence benefits included a per diem along with room and board. In the youth’s residence, benefits include a per diem along with subsidized rent and utilities.
About You: You possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to effectively communicate with and relate to people of all ages. You work well independently and understand the responsibilities that come with working with minimal supervision. You are a compassionate individual with a positive and empathetic approach. You are extremely detail oriented, organized and can manage multiple priorities at one time. In addition, you are eager to learn and carry out the principles and philosophy of Closer to Home and the Teaching-Family Model.
A diploma or degree in a related field is preferred and previous experience working with vulnerable children and families would be an asset. You must be willing to work a flexible work week, including evenings, weekends and holidays. The successful candidate must also have a valid Alberta Driver’s License, adequate and current insurance and be willing to provide a driver’s abstract upon hire. Current First Aid/CPR Certification is also required. In addition, a Criminal Record Check and a Child Welfare Intervention Check must be completed upon hire.
